Project Overview
The White Feather Project is a beautifully conceived two-unit detached home with an attached Kookum Laneway House — purpose-built for intergenerational Indigenous living in the heart of Ramsay, Calgary. Every element of this development has been designed with cultural intention, community connection, and family wellbeing at its core.
The main residence offers a warm, functional layout across two floors — featuring an entry mudroom, open kitchen and dining area, a living room with fireplace, main floor bathroom, two to three upper floor bedrooms, an upper floor bathroom, and dedicated laundry and mechanical space. It is a home designed for families to gather, grow, and feel grounded.
The Kookum Laneway House provides a self-contained, dignified living space for an elder or extended family member — complete with an entry and living area, kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom, laundry, and a garage workshop with vehicle bay and storage. It honours the role of grandmothers and elders in Indigenous family life by keeping generations close while preserving independence.
On the outward-facing side of the home, a dedicated mural wall has been allocated specifically for Indigenous artists — a living expression of culture, identity, and belonging visible to the entire neighbourhood.
This build falls under Métis Calgary Family Services' current housing spectrum for urban Indigenous peoples, guided by The SAGE Approach — Sacred Approach to Greater Efficacy. Residents are identified through MCFS's existing client referral network, ensuring homes reach those who need them most. The SAGE framework ensures that housing delivery moves beyond crisis response, wrapping authentic, secure shelter around unique service models in a nurtured residential acquisition environment.
